AAEN's Centre for Education Policy
Centre for Education Policy is AAEN’s long-term, strategic orientation. After many years and numerous initiatives and activities in the area of higher education reform, AAEN has decided to professionalise, deepen and widen this segment of its work and to consolidate it by forming the Centre for Education Policy. The work on modernisation of education and its harmonisation with European trends gathered a wide network of experts that invested their knowledge and experience in AAEN’s seminars, publications and research projects. The core of this network is made of young experts who represent the most important initial resource of the Centre for Education Policy.
About Centre for Education Policy
Centre for Education Policy is created with a vision of enhancement of education system through scientific research, creation of education policies, education of relevant stakeholders in the process of education reform, collecting and disseminating information and building expert human resources in educational field. CEP will work on all educational levels and it will aim at formulating education policies based on research. CEP will dedicate special attention to the issues of quality improvement, participation of discriminated groups, equity and efficiency of education.
The Centre for Education Policy will intensively cooperate with similar European institutions and organisations. CEP received support and confirmation of partnership from the Centre for Education Policy Studies – CEPS, Slovenia, the Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies – CHEPS, the Netherlands and NIFU STEP Studies in Innovation, Research and Education, Norway.
Activities of the Centre for Education Policy
In its very beginning, Centre for Education Policy became part of the Open Society Fund project “Monitoring process of Europeanisation of social, political, economic and legal area in Serbia”. Within the project CEP has participated in several activities related to potentials of education system in the Republic of Serbia – analysis of education system capacity to create experts for governance and administration, analysis of the National Education Council and National Council for Higher Education, as well as the analysis of the whole educational system in Serbia.
In the first year of work CEP will implement two thematic research projects. The first research will be a comprehensive analysis of inclusiveness and efficiency of higher education with a primary aim of identifying underrepresented social groups in higher education. The second thematic research is focused on examining the relation between secondary and higher education with the aim to generate possible models that would enable more transparent and equitable transition from one educational level to another.
With a goal to educate young experts, the Centre for Education Policy enables postgraduate studies in education policy for its associates. With the same goal, CEP will organise educational programmes, the first of which will be a seminar on scientific research in the field of education. The seminar is planned for September 2007 and will be oriented primarily towards the students of the final year at the first cycle, postgraduate students and researchers, representatives of the state institutions and NGO’s that deal with education. The support received from the renowned European centres will allow CEP’s young associates to learn about the work of similar organisations, to develop long-term partnerships and to use new knowledge and experience to build the Centre for Education Policy as a professional research organisation, competent to give its contribution to education development.
